For my research paper, I decided to write about the effects colorism has on the Hispanic community. This question had always lingered ever since I wrote a sociology paper on colorism. For this inquiry paper, I decided to continue the argument of how colorism affects the Hispanic community, however not from others but from our community. Though I had written a paper on colorism before, this time I had to reorganize the previous thoughts I had before. In my previous paper, I had experimented while this one was more research-based and argumentative. I believe that was the trickiest part of writing this paper, which was finding different sources that support my argument because it is very specific. Within this paper, I had to constantly dive into articles that would answer my question. In addition, I cited myself as a source to build my credibility. The fun part of this paper was the credibility I established within myself. Because I am a Hispanic, I witness firsthand colorism from not only people from my community but loved ones. This allowed me to use my personal experience, and in addition to gathering information from others, I was able to avoid any bias on this issue. Another difficulty that I experienced writing this paper was not only the page amount but the explanation of rhetorical devices. I believe I struggled with this part the most because I was ignoring any rhetorical strategies and was focusing more on the objective of the paper which was finding a solution or answer to the situation. I was more concerned with finding a solution and gathering sources that would back up my claim that I starred away from the rhetoric. This is why I believe if I was to rewrite this paper I would give the rhetorical devices a little more attention. Paying attention to the rhetorical strategies I believe it would also benefit me by making my inquiry paper stronger because I would have more to elaborate on. By understanding the speaker, message, and audience from which the article was obtained I would have probably had an easier time being able to explain and express my viewpoints on the topic. Additionally, it would have helped me break the articles down quickly for me. Overall, this inquiry paper was exciting because I was very invested in the topic. This is a paper I did not mind writing, instead very cautious about what to write.
